The town is just 6 km from the coast and 58 km from the airport and the capital Palma de Mallorca. The old town is characterised by narrow streets and the old market square with cafes, bars, shops and small hotels. Pollensa is a town with history that values its traditions and customs. In the early 1920s, Pollensa became a popular destination for famous painters, writers and musicians. Today Pollensa continues to be important to the cultural and art worlds promoting and hosting concerts and exhibitions, such as the International Music Festival. The most notable occasions are the festivals of Sant Antoni in January and the week-long festivities of the patron saint ‘La Patrona Mare de Déu dels Àngels’ in August. Also well worth visiting is the wine fair in April and the Sunday markets held every week. Points of interest include the convent on the Puig de Maria, where there are fantastic 360º views. There is a Roman Bridge and the 365 steps of the Calvario, with a great little cafe at the top to recover from the climb and relish the huge views to both the bays of Pollensa and Alcudia. Pollensa is an excellent starting point for hikers and cyclists before venturing up into the Tramuntana Mountains. Featuring two stunning valleys, Vall den March and Vall de Colonya, the plains and the mountains make for striking landscapes around a romantic town. Property in the area is diverse and in high demand right across the board and many have the holiday rental license in place practically guaranteeing great returns.
