Description

Nestled in the serene landscape of the village of Alaró, this majestic 16th-century estate—once the residence of the Bishop of Palma—has been masterfully restored into a sanctuary of timeless elegance. Renowned island architect Antonio Obrador led the restoration, achieving a perfect blend of architectural heritage and refined contemporary comfort. Behind centuries-old stone walls lies a private Mediterranean oasis: ancient olive trees, flowering citrus, and fig trees interwoven through the ages. Stone paths and staircases lead to the heart of the residence, introduced by a spacious courtyard with a generous garage. Adjacent to it, the swimming pool is surrounded by a tranquil terrace. Nearby stands the pool house, fully equipped with a kitchen, shower, and WC, offering every modern convenience. The ground floor of the main residence welcomes you into an impressive hall that leads to a private chapel and a library-lounge, both with fireplaces, as well as a dining room and a kitchen with pantry that connects directly to the garden and pool area. This level also features the first bedroom with en-suite bathroom and an adjoining sitting room. Upstairs, you’ll find a spacious central lounge with fireplace, which opens onto the master suite, complete with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. A wood-paneled study, another bedroom with its own bathroom, and a private terrace overlooking the garden—offering direct access to the pool—complete this floor. Two guest houses complement the estate. The first, spread over three floors, has independent access from the street and comprises several living areas with fireplaces, kitchen, patios, terraces, and en-suite bedrooms with privileged views of the village. The second guest house includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room with fireplace, and a kitchen. On the ground floor, an independent apartment offers two bedrooms, a full bathroom, living room, and kitchen—ideal for additional guests.

Location: Alaró, Balearic Islands

The picturesque village of Alaró is located in a quiet valley between two well-known mountains in the south of the Tramuntana mountain range. It is located in the centre of the island of Mallorca and currently has more than 5,700 inhabitants. It is about 20 minutes from the centre of Palma, as well as from the nearest beaches and the airport. It has numerous restaurants, as well as our beautiful Engel & Völkers office in the town square. It stands out for its old architecture and beautiful cobbled streets in the oldest part of the village, as well as for the surrounding nature. Alaró is home to a weekly market every Saturday, where one can find local fresh produce and clothes. In addition, its inhabitants of different nationalities give it a great cultural diversity. One of the most famous sights is the Castell d'Alaró, which is situated on the top of the mountain at an altitude of 822 metres and is listed as a site of cultural interest. The castle has stunning views of the Mallorcan countryside and as far as the bay of Palma, and is about two hours' walk from the centre of the village. It is a popular village for cyclists and hikers as it has some of the best routes on the island. The most important industry for the village was the shoe industry, which once numbered 30 factories, and today still includes the workshop of Tony Mora, world famous for his handmade cowboy boots.
